Some of the poetry I write is humorous or tells a story. But sometimes I have moments where traumas of the past start to creep back in, and one of the ways I bounce those things out is by writing. After all, I don’t want that kind of darkness roosting and becoming a residue in my heart, so writing it out in a poem or a song is one way I process it and get it out of my system.
Inner orbit is a poem that is not just about me but friends that I have had in the past, friends that I have watched sink under the weight of adversity, pulling away from all light. It is so important, especially with the times we live in today, that we keep as much light and joy in our hearts as possible. No matter what faith base you align with, most involve positivity that includes a foundation of light, Joy, and love. Cling to those tenets every day. The minute you wake up in the morning do not pick up your phone and look at it. Instead, Close your eyes, clear your mind, and have a conversation with yourself about how much good you have in you and how much you have to offer the world. After that, ask for the blessings of good health, guidance in all things, and to be filled with the abundance of knowledge and growth. Mind you, all of these desired blessings take action from us as well. I believe in a God that meets us halfway if we are willing to go the distance. Make sure that your daily walk is turned toward light instead of darkness. Be kind to yourself and love yourself. Do the same to others, and despite the adversity that surrounds you, you will be able to weather the storm.
Inner Orbit
Her misery could be undone
If she would only chase the sun
The waking hours thus complete
With energy and joy to greet
But often times there came the rain
With scattered storms that sharpened pain
And so she turned to sleep to find
Some happiness where dreams unwind
For no one there could do her harm
A fantasy that came unarmed
She sometimes felt alone as one
Because she left behind the sun
And as time flew so did the light
Then all emotion turned to night
Thus her sleep was filled with dread
Because she chased the moon instead
